Phoenix Communities of NOLA was founded by an educator who has worked in the Greater New Orleans and surrounding areas for over 15 years. Over the course of her teaching career, she has lost many students to gun violence, has witnessed an unfortunate amount of students whose circumstances forced them to drop out of school, and has seen a decline in students’ mental health with limited resources to obtain help. An already fragile state of many students in this city, coupled with the increase in juvenile delinquency has placed the next generation in harm’s way.
As an educator, Mrs. Courseault believes she is obligated to do something to disrupt this narrative as she has a great love for this city and an even greater love for the children within this city. As such, Phoenix Communities of NOLA will aim to make a positive impact in the lives of children, families, and communities by offering a free after-school program to children, ages 12-19. This program will offer mental health counseling, academic and career readiness programming, and daily hot meals. The ultimate goal of this afterschool program is to equip and empower the next generation to be agents of change and to tap into the fullness of their greatness.
